AI for technology companies

Support triage and agent-assist, incident copilots and security-questionnaire answers for software companies, connected to the helpdesk, Jira and your docs. Production write access stays behind approval.

The sector

What's different here

Software companies adopt AI tools faster than anyone, and their engineers trust the output least. The support queue, the incident channel and the security-questionnaire backlog are where the data is already structured and the work repeats.

Measured productivity gains are mixed. A controlled study found experienced open-source developers took longer with early-2025 AI tools while believing they were faster. Results depend on the task, so each workflow needs its own measurement against a baseline.

The serious incidents involve agents with too much access: a support bot inventing a policy, a coding agent deleting a production database. Scoped API permissions, separate environments and a human approval before anything irreversible are the minimum.

84%

of developers use or plan to use AI tools, but 46% distrust the accuracy of the output and only 3% highly trust it. Stack Overflow 2025 survey of 49,009 developers, via press coverage.[1]

19% longer

taken by 16 experienced open-source developers on 246 tasks in their own repositories when using early-2025 AI tools. They had expected to be 24% faster, and afterwards believed they had been 20% faster.[2]

90%

AI adoption among about 5,000 technology professionals surveyed by DORA, which describes AI as an amplifier of an organisation's existing strengths and dysfunctions.[3]

Workflows

Where AI does useful work

Each of these runs inside systems the sector already uses. Steps that carry real risk wait for a person.

Support triage and agent-assist

Tickets are classified and routed, and support agents get a drafted reply with citations to docs and past tickets.

  1. 1A ticket or chat arrives in the helpdesk
  2. 2Classify product area, severity and customer tier, and detect duplicates
  3. 3Retrieve relevant docs, past resolved tickets and the status page
  4. 4Draft a reply with citations for the support agent
  5. 5The support agent edits and sends
  6. 6Log knowledge-base gaps for the docs team

A support agent sends every reply until accuracy has been measured for that intent.

Bug reports to engineering

Tickets that describe defects become Jira issues with reproduction steps and the linked customer reports.

  1. 1Detect tickets that describe a likely defect
  2. 2Group duplicates across customers
  3. 3Draft a Jira issue with reproduction steps, environment and affected accounts
  4. 4An engineer or support lead accepts or edits it
  5. 5Link the issue back to the tickets for updates

A support lead or engineer accepts each issue before it enters the backlog.

Incident response copilot

During an incident, alerts, logs and recent deploys are summarised and status updates drafted for the on-call engineer.

  1. 1Summarise firing alerts and related logs
  2. 2List deploys and config changes in the window
  3. 3Draft a status-page update
  4. 4The on-call engineer approves or edits the update
  5. 5Draft the post-mortem timeline afterwards

The on-call engineer approves every status-page update, and the copilot has no write access to production.

Security questionnaires and RFPs

Questionnaires answered from an approved answer library, with new questions routed to their owners.

  1. 1Parse the questionnaire into individual questions
  2. 2Match each one to approved answers in the library
  3. 3Draft answers with links to the source policy or report
  4. 4Route unmatched questions to security or legal
  5. 5Sales engineering reviews before sending

Security approves any answer not already in the library, and sales engineering approves the full response.

Customer health signals

Product usage, tickets and CRM data are combined into account health, and CSM outreach is drafted.

  1. 1Join product usage, support tickets and CRM data in the warehouse
  2. 2Flag accounts with falling usage or rising ticket volume
  3. 3Summarise the likely reasons per account
  4. 4Draft outreach for the CSM
  5. 5The CSM edits and sends

The CSM sends every message.

SOC 2 and ISO 27001
AI vendors and sub-processors go into the vendor inventory and the audit scope like any other supplier.
ISO/IEC 42001
The certifiable AI management-system standard, increasingly requested in enterprise procurement.
GDPR
Sending customer data to an LLM provider needs DPAs and sub-processor notices.
EU AI Act
Art. 50 transparency obligations apply from 2 Aug 2026 under the Digital Omnibus schedule. If your product embeds AI, you may carry provider obligations as well as deployer ones.
Customer contracts and licensing
Many customer contracts forbid using their data for model training, and generated code raises licensing and IP questions.

Risks

What goes wrong, and how we design for it

Support bots inventing policy
Cursor's support bot reportedly invented a login policy in 2025. Answers come only from retrieved docs, and every new intent starts in agent-assist mode.
Agents with production write access
Scoped service accounts, separate development and production environments, and approval before any destructive or irreversible action.
Security and quality debt in generated code
Generated code goes through the same review, tests and static analysis as any other change, and merging stays a human decision.
Gains that are felt but not measured
Baseline the metric before launch, such as handle time or resolution time, and compare against a control group where possible.

Where to start

Ticket triage and agent-assist

Grounding replies in historical tickets is where the published results are strongest, and agent-assist keeps a person on every customer-facing message until accuracy is measured. Autonomous answers come later, intent by intent, with scoped API permissions for account actions.

  • Connect the helpdesk, product docs and the history of resolved tickets
  • Classify and route incoming tickets by product area, severity and tier
  • Draft replies with citations to docs and past tickets for support agents to edit and send
  • Log knowledge-base gaps with an owner on the docs team
  • Measure handle time, first-contact resolution and draft acceptance rate per intent
  • Switch on autonomous answers only for intents that pass the accuracy threshold

In the sector

Publicly reported examples

What others in the industry have announced. These are not our clients.

  • LinkedIn support retrieval[4]

A production retrieval system with a knowledge graph built from past support tickets cut median per-issue resolution time by 28.6% over about six months. Published at SIGIR 2024.

  • AI-generated code at Google[5]

Sundar Pichai said more than a quarter of all new code at Google is generated by AI, then reviewed and accepted by engineers. That is a share of accepted code, not a measure of productivity.

  • Replit agent deletes a production database[6]

A Replit coding agent deleted a live production database during a declared code freeze, then misreported whether recovery was possible. Replit then separated development and production databases automatically and added a planning-only mode.
